Mo te tunga | About the roleYou will support the New Zealand Defence Force's (NZDF) financial planning process as part of the NZDF Finance Team. You will work autonomously, with the ability to seek and obtain information from all levels of the organisation, and be able to translate technical advice from specialists in the acquisition, operation and maintenance of military equipment into financial impact. Your key tasks include overall responsibility for continuous development and evolutions of an Organisational Integrated Resource Plan, and the Defence Investment Plan.A typical day may include:Developing, testing, documenting, and maintaining costing/financial models that range from unique strategic investment decisions to regularly used models.Developing scenarios, options, and solutions to inform fiscal business decision-making taking into account practicality and affordability.Analysis and evaluations of strategic partnership contracts.Long-term actuarial valuation data analysis, and stakeholder support and management.Contributing to the annual external budget process, baseline updates, and internal budget processes.Supporting the wider Finance team by providing additional capacity to review activity/service/output costing elements in investment/business cases, tenders and proposals.The results of your work inform operational decision-making, as well as provide insight into product, process, output, and function costs for performance management.This role is based in Wellington CBD. Once you have undergone training and are up to speed, flexible working options are negotiable. You will be required to work primarily from the office.Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and ExperienceThis role is project based, so you will need to be able to manage and adapt to changing priorities, as well as changing levels of engagement from details at an operational level to big picture in the strategic space. The key to your success is clear and precise communication; you will need to be able to interpret and translate financial data and costing models to be able to engage at any level of the organisation and ensure understanding.Ideally, you will have:Excellent and effective interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to work in a team, and autonomously.A deep understanding and practical experience in life-cycle costing, financial modelling, and valuation techniques (economic, actuarial, and/or statistical).In-depth experience with building templates, and financial forecasting models for different organisational scenarios and applying best practice techniques including quality assurance processes and costing summaries.High level of computer literacy and with advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel including experience working with large data sets, Power Query, Power Pivot, and Power BI applications.Nou te rourou | What's in it for youYour skills and dedication deserve recognition, and NZDF delivers with competitive pay matched to your experience.
