What we are looking for
A Commerce experienced Senior Copywriter who is a thinker that can concept and develop integrated ideas, with a focus on developing ideas and executions that solve client problems across retail campaigns and experiential briefs. You will create the right messaging for various tactics, audiences, and communication needs. You will collaborate closely with other Art Directors and the design team to ensure the core idea remains intact when words blend with other components across channels.
You are as comfortable in the physical world as you are ideating in the digital space. You are able to present and speak confidently to ideas in front of clients. You have a good work ethic and demeanor and get along well with others.
The Senior Copywriter is on the front line of the work being tasked to our Creative Team. They collaborate with Art Directors and other Creatives to brainstorm, design, and develop concepts and executions that solve client problems.
Key responsibilities
Develop a variety of innovative copy for headlines, in-store material, emails, social posts, campaign concepts, collateral materials and more, that follow a given brand's voice and toneTranslate concepts into copy for shopper and digital tacticsWork fluently across channelsEnvision creative ways to leverage online ideas and technologiesBuilding upon other team members ideasAttending project briefings with creative team members, account service and strategyCreating presentation material to help sell ideasFurther exploring and/or revising concepts per creative lead's directionActively participate in project, team, training, and research meetingsPrepare awards materials, occasional new business opportunities and other agency-related projectsMentoring junior copy writersTimely completion of timesheets on a weekly basisOther responsibilities as needed.Required experience/skills/behaviours
Experience in developing retail, experiential and integrated campaigns10+ years of experience as a copywriter in a retail/ shopper specialist agency or retail/ shopper practice within an integrated agencyOriginality – willingness to generate new ideasStrong conceptual thinking with knowledge of the shopper and digital landscapeCollaboration – a willingness and ability to work with others and share your thoughts and ideas openlyIntegrity – behave with integrity at all timesAccountability – you will take responsibility for your own projects and set an example to the broader team.Strategic thinkingExcellent ability to listen and adjust output based on client feedbackDealing with ambiguityEmbracing challenging and shifting deadlinesLearning new and emerging platformsVersatility and a strong desire to keep learningDeep understanding of advertising and marketing principlesKnowledge of current trends, pop culture, current and past design themesAble to communicate clearly, thoroughly and succinctly both verbally and in writing; can clearly articulate an idea and the reason(s) behind a specific creative directionCurrent knowledge and understanding of where and how people interact with media, including at home, on the go, while shopping, mobile, broadcast, print, event, etc.VML highlights There are many things that make VML an awesome place to work, but we think these are worth a special mention:
