Customs is seeking two talented and motivated individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment and are keen to join a small high-performing team based in Auckland.

As a strong communications generalist, you'll be comfortable working with media, driving internal communications, developing, and implementing communications plans and supporting stakeholder relations.
This role requires high standards of written and oral communication, strong media and social media expertise, and exceptional relationship management skills.
Prior experience in public sector communications will be advantageous, we're seeking someone with the right mindset and an ambition to make a positive difference.
Reporting to the Communications and Media Manager, you'll be responsible for contributing to the Customs' key strategic plans and objectives and enjoy working with a certain level of autonomy that includes ownership over specific portfolios and relationships within the organisation.
You will be a trusted advisor tasked with developing and delivering communications plans and activities to amplify Customs' mahi, both internally and externally, and help ensure staff are fully informed and engaged.
To be successful as the Senior Communications and Media Advisor, you need: Minimum five years' experience in an advisory role, working in both operational and strategic communications on media and issues management as well as reputational excellence.
Previous experience in internal and external communications, including change management and/or digital channels management (i.e.
website, intranet, social media).
Competence in building strong internal and external networks and understanding the importance of these relationships with respect to brand presence and reputation.
Ability to identify, establish and enhance required external relationships, specifically in media engagement, with the ability to coach others to represent Customs in front of media.
Excellent internal and external client service with a relationship management focus, as well as well-developed influencing and negotiation skills.
Ability to think critically and strategically about issues and develop fit-for-purpose plans, with the ability to interpret data, understand audience needs, and tailor the communications.
Display enthusiasm, determination, tenacity, and persistence to achieve results.

If successful, you must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level.
Due to the nature of Customs work, you must have a clear Police record.
Successful applicants are also required to pass a drug test.
