Auckland Council's Elections Programme Team has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Communications Advisor to join our dynamic team for the 2025 local body election campaign. This fixed-term position will run until November 2025 and will be crucial in driving voter engagement and enhancing candidate diversity across Auckland. Reporting directly to the Marketing & Communications Lead, you'll be fully immersed in our elections programme, playing a key role in delivering impactful communications strategies.

Your mission will be to collaborate with various communications functions, manage publicity efforts, and produce engaging content to inspire Aucklanders to participate in the upcoming elections. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring our elections are vibrant, inclusive, and impactful.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

Collaborating with media, corporate communications, channel, publicity, and marketing teams to implement comprehensive communications plans for the 2025 local body elections.

Managing publicity programmes and campaigns, ensuring alignment with our strategic goals.

Identifying key audiences and stakeholders, crafting targeted messaging, and tracking campaign KPIs.

Handling media engagement, including preparation of press releases and managing media inquiries.

Planning and executing campaigns, including content production for online and social media channels.

Supporting a culture of inclusivity and adaptability in all aspects of our work.

This role requires experience in similar communications roles, with a sound understanding of publicity strategies and a knack for problem-solving. You're a strategic thinker with the ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging content. Your creative approach to connecting with Aucklanders will be crucial in mobilising diverse communities to engage in the elections.

You excel at building strong, trusted relationships with both peers and managers, and you influence others with confidence and resilience. We will be looking for specific experience with:

A tertiary degree in communications, journalism, or a related field

At least five years of experience in communications or a related discipline

Proven ability to create compelling content across various media channels, especially online and social

Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining relationships with media and key stakeholders

Strong communications judgment, with the ability to stay calm under pressure and maintain resilience
