About the role:
This newly created position reports directly through to our Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is a member of Port's wider Leadership Team. Working collaboratively with the CFO the Senior Commercial Manager will play a key role in ensuring Port Otago has robust financial management including:
Financial business partnering for the GM Customer, including quality analytics and scenario modelling to support commercial decision making.
Engaging alongside the GM Customer to understand the needs of our customers and partners to develop solutions that deliver efficient and resilient supply chains.
Leading Port's budgeting and forecasting processes, providing insightful analysis to enhance business performance.
Support Port Otago leaders and business unit owners with developing business cases, and to increase their financial awareness and acumen.
Leading Port's procurement strategy and implementation.
About you:
You'll be the kind of person who is equally comfortable working operationally and strategically and who has strong analytical and strategic skills with an inquiring mind and a drive to improve. You'll also:
Have a tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance and CA/CPA qualifications.
Have 5+ years' experience in a senior financial accounting position.
Be commercially savvy and enjoys considering options/deals.
Have leadership experience or at the least has great leadership attributes including: great collaborator, influencer and coach.
Champion the use of data, systems, and AI to support great decision making.
Be comfortable iterating work in an agile way.
Have a demonstrated project management mindset and ability to lead and deliver change and projects.
Be an excellent communicator who is able to write a sound business case and present data to fit requirements and end user needs.

Heads up:
This is typically a Monday to Friday position, but as the Port operates 24/7, occasionally some flexibility is required.
A full clean NZ Drivers licence is essential.
A high standard of safety - not afraid to speak up.
You must be able to pass Ministry of Justice, ACC checks and a medical which includes a drug and alcohol test as part of our recruitment process.
Random drug and alcohol testing.
