Technology sourcing & commercial managementAbout the TeamWithin our Corporate Services Division, led by the CFO, the Procurement and Supply Team provides a centre led procurement function that works to achieve enterprise level outcomes from over $450 million of procurement spend per annum across 1,600 domestic and international suppliers.The team works to empower a more sustainable energy future for New Zealand by providing expert procurement and commercial management capability, and enabling supply chain functions to our operational divisions, driving both financial and non-financial benefits over the long term.The OpportunityAs Senior Category Manager - IST you will be responsible for executing technology sourcing and commercial management activity for Transpower's current and future business needs.
You will do so by establishing and maintaining supplier relationships and commercial frameworks within which the business groups you support so they can effectively operate.Your key accountabilities will include the development of procurement strategies (including market analysis, sourcing models, reporting, and supplier relationships) and product plans to support the whole procurement lifecycle.
The procurement strategies, product, and procurement plans you develop will ensure relevant factors, including cost, safety, environment, project delivery, operability, and maintainability are considered.Key ResponsibilitiesSupplier market evaluation and analysis, documenting research and providing supply chain expertise.Developing and managing multi-year category plans to generate value, deliver service excellence, and optimise diversity spending.Working with senior management supporting strategic planning and decision-making.Understanding the buying needs of each IT category.Developing strategies to manage procurement of all equipment categories.Leading cross-functional teams through strategic sourcing processes and development/execution of negotiation strategies providing regular reporting on savings, initiatives, potential opportunities, as well as risks and challenges.Measuring, monitoring, and analysing the overall performance of suppliers.What will you bring?With proven IT category management experience at a Senior level, you will possess:Highly effective communication skills.Demonstrable ability to engage and build key internal and external relationships.Ability to advocate and influence with your well-developed commercial acumen.Excellent analytical and critical thinking with ability to extract, analyse, and use data to create business cases and executive level presentations.Proven experience developing procurement strategies and associated delivery programs, including expertise identifying sources of value.QualificationsYour CV and cover letter will be reinforced by relevant qualifications (Business, Commerce, Law) and/or equivalent experience and demonstrate a strong understanding of the principles of procurement, including sourcing, category, and demand management with the ability to apply procurement principles through a service delivery lens, and will evidence:7+ years of commercial/procurement experience in IST, including software, hardware, and related services.Knowledge of a broad range of ICT products and services and the commercial models which underpin them.Working experience with software licensing, hardware (general), managed services, Cloud, IST contracts, SLAs.Knowledge and understanding of 'Total Cost' with proven ability to develop cost savings opportunities.Experience developing supply sources, pre-qualifying vendors, and performing due diligence activities, including site inspections and risk identification & mitigation.Demonstrated experience utilising the full range of alternative sourcing strategies (e.g.
make vs buy, specification rationalisation, global sourcing, and relationship restructuring).Demonstrated experience leading negotiations of various types, recording, and formalising outcomes, and integrating these into the final deal.Experience identifying and applying price variation and indexation strategies.While not essential, an understanding of and experience with Government Procurement Rules and probity and direct commercial and procurement experience in the Electricity Transmission, Construction, or IT sectors, including project delivery and maintenance, would be advantageous.Additional InformationIt's exciting!
