In this newly established role, you will provide expert high-level advice and guidance to support the achievement of strategic objectives and conservation outcomes through effective business assurance practices.
Some of the key tasks the position will be focused on includes:
Providing expert, pragmatic advice on governance, risk management, compliance and internal controls matters.Partnering and building strong relationships across business units, serving as a trusted advisor throughout the organisation to enhance assurance capabilities and drive the delivery of key outcomes.Collaborating with teams to support and identify key organisational risks, trends and themes to support planning and decision making.Supporting the manager to design and execute DOC's annual assurance plan, aligning assurance activities with DOC's strategic priorities and risk profile.Planning and conducting assurance reviews, including practical recommendations for process and control environment improvement.Driving continuous improvement of risk and assurance frameworks, policies, systems, and processes.As a key member of Business Assurance Services function, you will also be expected to respond to the ever-changing needs of our organisation, flexibly performing tasks as required. Please note that there will be some requirements for travel.
Our ideal candidate will have extensive experience in assurance, risk management, internal audit, or governance, ideally within the public sector or environmental organisations. You will be a confident and engaging communicator, capable of thriving in a highly visible role across the organisation and provide expert yet practical advice.
We would love to hear from you if you have the following qualifications and experience:
A tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, business, risk management, or a related discipline.Strong knowledge and experience in business assurance, risk management or assurance roles.Skilled in managing assurance programmes and conducting audits or reviews at a strategic level.Excellent interpersonal skills, highly adaptable, strong self-awareness with the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders.Expertise in stakeholder engagement and influencing organisational change.A collaborative team player who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about delivering results.Professional certification (e.g., CA, CPA, CISA, CIA).Mo te tima | About the team Business Assurance Services is making a strategic shift by collaborating and enabling business units across DOC to foster an assurance culture and strengthen assurance capabilities with a view of delivering DOC's strategic outcomes. This includes proactively managing risks, optimising performance, and ensuring continued compliance with obligations.

The salary range for this position is $92,450 - $116,985 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
