To prepare for this growth, and to welcome more residents to our district, we have over $130 million worth of water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure projects to deliver over the next 10 years, including new treatment plants, reservoirs and reticulation renewals - it's an exciting time to be part of Water Services at Waipa!About the RoleWe are looking for a Senior Asset Planning Engineer to join our Water Services Team based in Te Awamutu.
This role will develop and implement strategies and asset management plans for Waipa District Council's strategic/long term infrastructure planning as it relates to water, wastewater and stormwater assets.As a qualified Civil Engineer with knowledge and experience of water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure, one of your key areas of focus in this role will be to plan and implement asset management strategies and plans to support a robust asset renewal and maintenance profile for the 'Three Waters'.The key responsibilities for this role are:Identify and coordinate key projects for the Three Waters to a 30-year programme.
Ensure projects are well scoped, designed, and handed over to the Project Delivery unit or contracts team.Oversee the collection, analysis, and interpretation of asset information related to the Three Waters.
Inform long-term projects, financials, and strategies with considerations for district growth, upgrades, renewal/maintenance work, and new works.Ensure projects are identified, scoped and business cases developed within agreed timeframes.Provide technical advice and expertise to key stakeholders on water services infrastructure planning and asset management practices.
Liaise with Asset Information Analyst, GIS, asset information officers, and other key stakeholders for AMP updates and reviews.Lead and enable direct reports to deliver business unit and organisational performance objectives.
Provide appropriate development, induction, and internal training opportunities to direct reports.Demonstrate compliance with Health and Safety requirements and promote awareness of relevant responsibilities.
Assist H&S Advisor to implement rehabilitation and return to work procedures for staff.Contribute to Business Continuity Management (BCM) and Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) planning and implementation.Support and model Waipa Values.
Take personal responsibility for professional development and identify opportunities for improvement.Our successful candidate will have:A Bachelor (Level 7) qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering; andAt least five years' experience in a civil and/or Three Waters engineering role.Preference will be given to candidates who have:Great communication skills, the ability to work collaborativelyA passion for doing the very best by the communities we serveThe ability to gain NZ Chartered Professional Engineer professional status or Apopo Professional Practice Accreditation, if not already, is desirable.You will also have excellent people skills, be motivated towards asset engineering and planning, and be willing to share your experience whilst upskilling your peers.
You must also have comprehensive project management skills to support thorough decision making.
With excellent communication skills, you will ensure you have all internal and external stakeholders fully on board.While the role is based out of our Te Awamutu office, some travel within the Waipa district may be required (at Council's reasonable expense) to fulfil your duties.Depending upon experience, the gross annual salary range for this 40-hour per week role is $103,068 to $114,520.Our communities are at the forefront of all that we do, that's why we work hard to ensure that we have the best people on board our 'Waipa' team.
