Senior Analyst - Research Support

Position Purpose: This is a senior position in the Environmental Health Intelligence NZ (EHINZ) team which provides intelligence on New Zealand's environmental health under a contract with the Ministry of Health. EHINZ is based in the Centre for Public Health Research within the College of Health, Massey University, and has five surveillance systems for monitoring environmental health in New Zealand:Environmental health indicatorsHazardous substancesBurden of diseaseSocial vulnerability indicatorsNZ Congenital Anomalies RegisterThis position involves leadership of projects, mentoring junior staff, developing collaborations with colleagues in other research institutions, providing technical expertise across all areas of EHINZ, preparing ad hoc reports on special topics, and maintaining and developing relationships with stakeholders and clients.AccountabilitiesLeadershipManaging specified environmental health domainsLeading and contributing to EHINZ projects in the surveillance of New Zealand's environmental healthLeading in the strategic development of new environmental health indicatorsContributing to the development of new analytical tools for the surveillance of environmental healthConducting policy-relevant analysis of environmental healthAssist with the strategic development of new environmental health indicatorsAssist in the maintenance and updating of the EHINZ Guidelines and Analytical StandardsProvide technical support and mentoring to junior staffSeek opportunities for funding from third-party sources for EHINZ projectsLead and assist with other EHINZ projects as requiredReportingManaging the EHINZ requirements to the funder, the Ministry of HealthProducing surveillance reports on environmental health topics for dissemination and publicationProducing data and intelligence on environmental health issues for ad-hoc requests from stakeholders and clientsProducing ad-hoc reports on special environmental health topicsTechnical AdviceRepresent the EHINZ team at technical advisory meetings as requiredProvide technical expertise to the maintenance of EHINZ domainsContribute to the maintenance of the EHINZ websiteStakeholder EngagementPrepare and deliver presentations to stakeholders and clients on the work of the EHINZ programmeContribute to developing and maintaining relationships with existing and new data providers, and other stakeholders such as the Ministry of Health, Health NZ/ Te Whatu Ora, other government agencies, ESRProduce analysis and intelligence on environmental health topics for stakeholders and clientsQualifications and ExperienceHonours or Masters degree in relevant subjects (essential)Knowledge and experience in health, health science, epidemiology, or statistics (essential)Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel, SAS, or a similar software package (essential)Experience in applying analytical thinking skills and interpretation to the analysis of data and research (essential)Excellent written and oral communication skills (essential)Demonstrated ability to work in and lead teams (desirable)Experience in project management (desirable)Capabilities - BehaviourDelivering ResultsMaintains focus on critical work and expectationsTakes responsibility for escalating issues that impact on planned work and outcomesCommunicationDevelops a clear, complete understanding of needs and problems through careful listening, probing, reflecting, and summarisingDelivers written and oral communications that engage audience participantsWorking TogetherEstablishes and maintains productive working relationships with key stakeholdersContinuous TransformationAble to coach and influence internal and external stakeholdersService CentricActs with the internal/external stakeholder or customer in mindCapabilities - TechnicalAccuracy and Attention to DetailProcesses large quantities of detailed information with high levels of accuracyData Gathering and ReportingAnalyses complex reports as revealed by the dataProject ManagementOperational knowledge of project management processes and tools to develop project plans and manage projectsQuality ManagementWorks with quality assurance methods, tools and techniques
