Senior Advisor, Variations Programme

Who we are: Te Tahu Hauora Health Quality and Safety Commission (Te Tahu Hauora) is a stand-alone Crown entity with a board responsible to the Minister of Health.

Te Tahu Hauora is responsible for assisting providers, both private and public, across the whole health and disability sector to improve service safety and quality and therefore outcomes for all those who use these services in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The role: As the Senior Advisor, Variations Programme you will provide expert, trusted advice to Te Tahu Hauora on variation in healthcare service use and provision.

Develop new Atlas domains: This includes reviewing evidence-practice gaps, identifying existing quality indicators, seeing what data is available in existing datasets, assessing potential new datasets, and scoping a first iteration of indicators in the topic of interest. Communication: You will communicate and share the results of new and updated Atlases. Stakeholder engagement is important to ensure that Atlas findings are acted on. Update existing Atlas domains: The role will work with the team to update existing Atlas domains, including their translation into the Measures Library. The role will also support the team in other relevant work, such as providing input to other products like the Measures Library, the Quality Dashboards and Quality & Safety Markers (QSM). This role is fixed term until July 2025 as parental leave cover.

About you: To be successful in this position, you will need:

Ability to clearly tell a story with complex data, concisely and in plain language. Strong understanding of New Zealand's health sector. Experience working with expert advisory groups or committees. Well-developed writing skills and experience in undertaking evidence synthesis or literature reviews. A demonstrated understanding of the unintended consequences of reporting health services data. An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to equity in the health and disability sector.
