The Opportunity Our Strategy Team at the Otago Regional Council is looking for a Senior Advisor - Strategy to join the team on a full-time basis (37.5 hrs per week) in our busy Dunedin office.
The purpose of this role is to provide expert advice, analysis, and a strategic future-focused perspective on Council programmes to position Council to meet the region's future challenges.
As a Senior Advisor - Strategy, you will be responsible for:
Developing an understanding of Council's internal and external operating environment and ensuring appropriate analysis of threats and opportunities to enable robust, strategic decision-making.Using strategic thinking, innovation, facilitation, and analytical skills to understand future priorities for Council to optimise service provision to the community.Working with staff across ORC to develop, implement, monitor and review ORC's Strategic Directions and subject-specific strategies and frameworks such as the Climate Strategy, Biodiversity Strategy, and Air Quality Strategy.Building enduring relationships across Council and outside of ORC, convening groups (internal and external), and working closely with mana whenua to ensure they are a key partner.If you are future-focused and keen to play a key role in informing decisions about Council programmes to ensure delivery of great community outcomes, then this is the role for you!
About You Our ideal candidate will have:
A tertiary qualification (e.g. in science / natural resource management / planning) and/or relevant work history.A minimum of 10 years' post-graduate work experience in a related role.Experience in or understanding of Local Government preferable.Experience working in the climate change space preferable.An understanding of the roles of regional councils in resource management in New Zealand.Analytical and problem-solving skills.Well-developed written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate with senior management and councillors.What we offer We recognise and celebrate diversity within Team ORC and are committed to providing a work environment that supports inclusion and equal opportunities.
