Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission leads the public sector to make a positive difference for New Zealand and New Zealanders.The Public Service Fale is looking for a Senior Advisor to join our Secretariat and Governance Team. The Fale, which sits within Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission, is a regional centre of excellence that operates to support 16 Public Service Commissioners in the Pacific (PPSC's) to achieve their goals to strengthen public services for their citizens. The Public Service Fale work programme is overseen by a Governance Board of PPSCs from six Pacific nations. We are Pacific-led in that our priorities are set by the PPSC's, and we work closely with our strategic partner, the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade.In this role, your primary assignment is to:Support delivery of the Fale's engagement and coordination with development partners also working in the Pacific on public sector strengthening.Support delivery of Output 2 of the Fale's establishment MOU, regarding the convening of the annual Fono: Pacific Public Service Leaders' Conference, as well as the secretariat functions set out in the Pacific Public Service Leaders' Group (PPSLG) Terms of Reference (TOR).The expected areas of focus and deliverables for this role are as follows:Provision of support for the development and implementation of a Partner Coordination Plan, including through the establishment of a 'Fono Partner Dialogue', to be imbedded as a regular feature of the annual Fono: Pacific Public Service Leaders' Conference programme.Provision of support for the development of formal partnership arrangements where it would be of benefit to the advancement of the Fale's bilateral delivery programme, and support for regular engagement following establishment of such arrangements.To be successful in this role, you will have:Recent experience in one of more of the following areas: foreign affairs, pacific development, multilateral and/or Pacific regional affairs.An excellent understanding of Pacific development issues and challenges, including as articulated in the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, and the Boe Declaration on Regional Security.An excellent understanding of CROP agency procedures and the Pacific development partner landscape, including regional summitry.Familiarity with development partner accountability requirements (especially DFAT and MFAT).This is a fixed-term role ending December 2025.We believe in a diverse and inclusive Public Service which reflects the communities that we serve.
