Mo to matou Ropu - About the team
The Operational and Competency Systems team are responsible for providing advice to internal stakeholders to assist in identifying and resolving specialist regulatory issues (e.g. changes to conventions, new rules and changing practices). We deliver on the organisation's agreed outputs and strategic priorities. Sometimes this involves making decisions and taking action. The team takes a whole of system view to the safe, secure and clean operation of ships, ports and maritime products, including the competencies required to achieve this.
Te tunga | The role
As the Senior Advisor Maritime Operations and Competency Systems you'll be responsible for providing quality insights, leadership and advice. You will have the opportunity to use your maritime operational expertise and knowledge to contribute to Maritime NZ's regulatory direction, carry out robust analysis, provide advice and make recommendations in line with Maritime NZ's regulatory strategic intentions.
You'll work closely with key stakeholders to accurately interpret highly technical issues for non-technical audiences. Identify, analyse and work to help resolve problems, ensuring solutions are practical and lead to good regulatory practice.
This role may require occasional travel.
Nou te rourou | What you bring

Proven depth and breadth of experience within the maritime industry;
In-depth knowledge of operational and competency based regulatory requirements for seafarers and maritime operators;
Proven experience and knowledge of regulatory practice;
Experience working collaboratively in a team of professional, technical and specialist staff;
The capability to provide thoughtful and practical input, based on recognised principles, to maritime system changes;
Capability to provide assurance regarding the design around key elements of our maritime system changes ensuring risk is understood and appropriately managed;
Ability to influence and collaborate effectively across stakeholders;
Highly effective written and oral communication skills including the ability interpret highly technical issues for non-technical audiences;
Demonstrated success with projects and programmes of work involving multiple objectives, diverse stakeholders operating in dynamic environments.

This role is based in Wellington and is a permanent, full time opportunity with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week and has a full salary range of $117,555 - $143,422.
