Senior Advisor, International Engagement

Details of the offer

Senior Advisor, International Engagement The Office of the Auditor-General Te Mana Arotake (the Office) aims to improve trust and confidence in the public sector. The Auditor-General is the statutory auditor of all public organisations, playing a major part in ensuring that New Zealand's public sector remains one of the most trusted in the world. No other organisation, public or private, has the overview of the whole public sector that the Office of the Auditor-General has.
We're looking for a Senior Advisor, International Engagement to support the Office's international work. This is an opportunity to be part of our wide-ranging capacity-building work in the Pacific region.
In this role, you'll be working closely with the Pacific Association of Supreme Audit Institutions (PASAI), Pacific audit institutions, and the Auditor-General of New Zealand in his role as the Auditor-General for the Governments of Niue and Tokelau. You'll provide hands-on technical support to our auditors in the Cook Islands and Samoa - our twinning partners - as well as liaising with international stakeholders, supporting correspondence and official visits, and carrying out monitoring and reporting related to our funding agreements with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
To be successful in this role, you'll have:
a solid understanding of accounting and auditing theory and principles;
up-to-date knowledge of and experience with accounting and auditing practices;
a strong understanding of the public finance system (particularly funding, authorising, and accountability arrangements and requirements);
at least four years' practical experience in public accounting and financial management or in external audits of government organisations;
good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to develop material for a range of audiences and platforms; and
experience advising on and providing one-on-one and group training.
We offer our staff:
Learning and development opportunities.
Supportive, flexible working.
Health and well-being benefits.
As an organisation, people matter to us, our independence is critical, we act with integrity and courage, and we're here to make a difference.
We have a diverse and inclusive team that helps us to understand the issues facing the public sector and how these affect the lives of New Zealanders. We strongly welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
