We are seeking a pro-active and experienced Senior Advisor to help contribute to our newly established Inquiries Response Team here at Te Tahu o te Ture - the Ministry of Justice.
Senior Advisors are responsible for contributing and leading the development of high-quality work across the Inquiries Response Team to support the Ministry to deliver on its obligations to these Inquiries and maximise the opportunities they provide.
Forward-thinking, agile and adept at problem solving, you will work collaboratively and constructively to oversee and deliver multiple, complex pieces of research, advisory and policy work.
Note this is a fixed-term opportunity from June to 30 November 2024. To be successful in the role, you will:
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skillsHave excellent analytical and problem-solving abilitiesBe able to contribute to multiple pieces of work concurrently and activelyIndependently plan and manage your workloadHave experience providing advice in a public sector organisation and demonstrable experience in a relevant fieldHave an understanding of the Waitangi Tribunal's processes, particularly in relation to Kaupapa Inquiries, and other Inquiries' processesHave an understanding of, and be committed to, the principles of te Tiriti o WaitangiHave an understanding of, and experience with, te Ao Maori and tikangaA tertiary degree in a relevant field and good understanding of the machinery of government would be useful.

The Inquiries Response Team is recently established, housed within the Policy Group, and is focused on making New Zealand a safe and just society. We are committed to honouring our commitments under te Tiriti o Waitangi. The Team currently manages the Ministry's response to four Inquiries:
The Waitangi Tribunal's Te Rau o te Tika: The Justice System Inquiry,The Waitangi Tribunal's Constitutional, Self-Government and Electoral System Inquiry,The Royal Commission of Inquiry into COVID-19 Lessons, andThe Government Inquiry Into the Response to the North Island Severe Weather Events.Joining Te Tahu o te Ture means you will become part of an organisation that welcomes and supports people of all gender identities, ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, disabilities and religions.
This role is based in the National Office in Wellington. Flexible working arrangements can be discussed. The appointing salary for this role will be between $110,766 and $154,680 based on skills and experience.
