This is a permanent full-time role based in our Auckland Customhouse and working across our service network.About this role…Reporting directly to the Manager Health Safety and Wellbeing, you will be responsible for providing health, safety and baseline wellbeing advice, expertise and support across the organisation. The emphasis of the role is critical risk focused. This will include, planning, developing and delivering health, safety and risk mitigation initiatives and programmes across the organisation. In addition, it also includes promoting a culture of safety and wellbeing by building relationships, supporting safety and wellbeing networks and encouraging good practice and behaviour.To be successful as a Senior Advisor Safety and Wellbeing, we'd expect you to have…Effective performance in a Senior Health and Safety position or comparable role in an operational environment (5 years plus).In-depth knowledge of the essential components of NZ health and safety legislation and regulations.A friendly, approachable and open operating style linked to a "can do" attitude and desire to find workable solutions to people management matters that meet the needs of managers and are compliant with legislation and/or policy requirements.Strong problem-solving capability, including the ability to identify problems, manage or mitigate risks and implement innovative solutions.Strong project management and evaluation knowledge and experience.Sound interpersonal skills, and the ability to build and enhance successful relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Excellent communication skills both verbally and written with the ability to communicate complex and analytical data to wide ranging audiences at all levels.Sound computer skills including work processing and the ability to make effective use of computer systems.A tertiary qualification in health and safety or equivalent discipline.Working at Customs…We aim to create a great place to work, where our people have a sense of belonging and the capability and desire to meet our future challenges. You may have been absent from New Zealand for periods of six or more months within the past five years, preferably in one or more of the following countries: either Australia, Canada, UK or the USA. You will be required to provide overseas police certificates for these periods spent outside of New Zealand.You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level. Due to the nature of Customs work, you must have a clear Police record. The successful applicant will also be required to pass a drug test as well as being subject to random, ongoing drug tests during their period of employment with Customs.
