We strive to actively build te Ao Maori perspectives and capability into our day to day work, values and practices.Position PurposeThe purpose of the Senior Advisor, Exercises is to:Lead and support the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of exercises across the Emergency Management System.Promote a culture of continuous improvement and learning.Work with lead agencies to assist them to develop national exercises where that agency has the lead.Support the team working with Regional Civil Defence, to encourage use of exercises for readiness preparation.Team OverviewThe position sits with System Capability Unit / Wahanga Pumanawa Punaha which leads the identification, design and implementation of strategies that will build the capability, capacity and resilience of the emergency management system across New Zealand. This includes developing and implementing a range of workforce development initiatives which also support the professionalisation of the emergency management workforce in NZ. System Capability supports performance improvement through the setting and monitoring of professional development standards and tests capability, resources and processes through national and local exercises.Emergency Response RequirementsAs NEMA is an operational agency, there may be a requirement to respond to emergency activations in the event of a national emergency response. This may include potentially long hours and challenging working conditions, e.g. an emergency could occur at any time of the day or night and may require working shifts and/or working weekends. NEMA provides thorough training prior to you being required to assist in a response. NEMA will do all in its power to support staff in meeting their work and family responsibilities during an emergency.
