Job Description The Senior Advisor – Environment is responsible for coordinating and providing functional environmental support to the Waihi Operation. This role ensures compliance with statutory acts, regulations, consent conditions and company environmental standards.
The Senior Advisor - Environment is to provide environmental, site and consent knowledge to relevant projects and Exploration.
Assist the operation to meet all regulatory and OceanaGold requirements, standards, and guidelines.
Rehabilitation and site closure focus.
Establish and manage time, focus and priorities of direct reports to achieve individual and team performance goals.
Coach and develop direct reports to meet or exceed expected performance levels through the development and review of goals.
Monitor and keep up to date with changes in the regulatory environment.
Liaise with personnel, consultants, auditors and legal advisors to ensure company environmental performance and targets are achieved.
Provide specialist environmental advice to projects and personnel as required.
Represent the Sustainability Department at site meetings as appropriate.
Present environmental focused information to internal and external groups.
Participate in annual site Peer Review process.
Ensure site awareness of regulatory and statutory obligations through day to day interaction and specific training and awareness.
Establish and maintain relationships with relevant external stakeholders.
Identify, plan and (if appropriate) implement environmental improvements.
Monitoring, assessment, and reporting of environmental aspects of the Waihi Operation.
Provide input into departmental and site reporting.
Support the preparation of consent applications as required.
Advise appropriate site personnel of any non-compliances, non-conformances or environmental irregularities and assist in resolutions.
Carry out administrative functions (write reports, attend meetings and disseminate information, complete purchase and service orders) commensurate with role.
Participation in an on-call roster to provide 24/7 coverage for monitoring.
Qualifications Minimum of a tertiary qualification in Environmental or Earth Sciences, Resource Management or similar.
Full and Current Driver Licence, ability to drive manual vehicles and 4WD's is preferred.
Lead Auditor qualification.
A minimum of 7 years cumulative post graduate experience, with a minimum of 3 years work experience in a regulatory monitoring environment.
Environmental monitoring and technical reporting.
Supervising a team.
Mining, construction, industry experience.
Skills in Rehabilitation and Closure, Waste Management, Climate Change and Water preferable.
Environmental, H&S and/or IMS auditing.
Regulatory processes.
Working knowledge of: Microsoft suite of programs: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams.
Report writing and presentation.
New Zealand Regulatory obligations.
Data management systems and software (InViron, Blasthub) and statistical analysis.
ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
Mapping software such as ArcGIS or QGIS Risk Management.
