Varied and exciting role ideal for a super organised candidate to thrive
Competitive Salary + 3 extra Customs' leave days
Wellington based roles with flexible working
Be part of an amazing team with a great culture!
The New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) protects and promotes New Zealand through world class border management. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a Senior Correspondence, Review and Ministerial Advisor/or Advisor position located in at the Wellington Customhouse, in the Correspondence, Reviews, and Ministerial Servicing team within the International and Governance Group.
This is a great opportunity for you to step into a role to gain hands-on analysis experience and have an influence across almost every part of Customs. You will be a key influencer on how the outside world views the organisation in protecting and promoting New Zealand across borders and playing our part to protect the country to reduce harm to New Zealand communities and our economy.
This team has a unique role in Customs as the facilitator between the agency and the Minister's Office. Being a part of the team will provide you with a well-rounded understanding of the really interesting work undertaken by Customs, its many components and operations. This role will enable you to expand your skill set, working in a varied and multifaceted environment, where decisions are made impacting the lives of everyday New Zealanders.
As a smaller agency, there is ample opportunity for exposure across the agency in your day-to-day work, such as engaging with senior staff and sitting in on meetings of other business units as part of the team's stakeholder engagement. The role is also a great career pathway to gain experience towards a policy analyst role within the Policy Group and/or the International Policy Team.
The ideal person for the role will need to be politically "savvy" and comfortable dealing directly with a range of staff, business units and senior managers. Preferably you will have worked in a Ministerial Services team previously, or perhaps had some experience working at Parliament and be familiar with the machinery of government and parliamentary processes. You need some knowledge of how to interpret legislation, and experience in producing quality responses to Ministerial correspondence, Written Parliamentary Questions, Official Information Act and Privacy Act requests, compiling the Minister's Weekly report etc is desirable.
Your previous relationship management skills will be important. Groups inside the organisation and externally, such as the Minister's office, are key to you gathering the right information. We are looking for someone who can pin down the focus of challenging and broad questions and has very effective written and oral communication skills. As there is a high workload, time management and the ability to prioritise workloads effectively is key.
Team dynamics are an important part of building a highly effective team in a high-pressure environment. So, we are looking for a person who demonstrates a "can do" attitude, is a positive role model, takes the initiative and can represent the manager from time-to-time confidently with key stakeholders. If this great opportunity interests you, we would love to hear from you.
