The Ministry of Social Development is a people-centred organisation. We're in communities across the motu, working with partners to help New Zealanders be safe, strong and independent.
We provide social policy and advice to government and assistance, including income, employment and housing support to people of all ages, families, whanau and communities.
As a Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner we are committed to supporting and enabling Maori, whanau, hapu, Iwi and communities to realise their own potential and aspirations.
Our people are as diverse as the communities we serve. We care about the wellbeing and success of our people and provide a supportive and inclusive working environment where people can thrive and be who they are.
Te Kahui Kahu is a unit of approximately 85 people hosted by the Ministry of Social Development. Our purpose is to help make sure social services are safe for New Zealanders to use. Our main role is to accredit social service providers on behalf of six government agencies that fund a range of social services across the motu. The six agencies share the cost of accreditation between them, and a representative from each agency comprises our advisory board.
We assess providers against a suite of accreditation standards relevant to the services they are delivering. This provides assurance to government, communities and service users, and helps providers to succeed. We want New Zealanders to be confident to use social services that help them live the lives they choose.
