Senior Accountant at Climate Change Commission, Wellington We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Accountant to join the newly established Finance and Assurance team. This team was created to bring in-house a currently outsourced set of accounting services.
He Pou a Rangi Climate Change Commission is an independent Crown entity that drives climate action in Aotearoa New Zealand. We provide independent, impartial advice to the Government on both mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change, and we monitor and review the Government's progress towards its emissions reduction and adaptation goals.
Since establishing in December 2019, we have released advice on the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme, agricultural emissions pricing, the foundational Inaia tonu nei: a low emissions future, which included advice on the country's first three emissions budgets and the first emissions reduction plan.
We recognise the importance of te ao Maori. We uphold the treaty partnership by ensuring our work reflects Maori views and Te Tiriti o Waitangi The Treaty of Waitangi.
In the Senior Account role, you will undertake financial planning and budgeting, and collating all financial information required by various statutory authorities.

Being accountable for all financial budgeting and planning activitiesPreparing regular financial and statistical reports including monthly, quarterly and annual reporting / budgeting processes and preparing all statistical and financial returns required by the statutory authorities.Providing an internal audit function as required and systems compliance and support for audit processes.Ensuring the correct and effective maintenance of the organisation's financial accounting and general ledger systems.Working with the Manager, Fiance and Assurance to support the Commission's procurement function.To be considered for the Senior Accountant role you must have a relevant tertiary qualification and be a Member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. You will also have experience working with accounting systems and reporting tools along with having significant business management knowledge and experience.
You will have proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders, high levels of integrity and confidentiality, excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and an understanding of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and te ao Maori.

The full salary range for this role is $123,614 - $185,422. We expect that the successful applicant's starting salary to be in the lower two thirds of this range.
