Distinction Hotels Group is a 100% New Zealand owned & operated, and its premium 112 room hotel, nestled in beautiful Te Anau, the gateway to Milford Sounds and a great base to explore Fiordland.
About the opportunity
A great opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and ambitious Sous Chef to join a great team. Servicing around 100 to 180 covers for dinner both TDH and a la carte, with approx 200 for breakfast in the height of the season.
The candidate will come from a hotel or events background and must have previous experience managing a kitchen at the Senior Chef or Sous Chef level. The Senior Sous Chef will be ready to lead the team in absence of the Head Chef and continue on the current service delivery of our busy kitchen. Reporting directly to the Executive Chef and General Manager, your role will involve:
Responsibilities & Key tasks
You will have a knowledge of both conferencing and a la carte restaurant service, take pride in what you are producing and can pass on your passion and knowledge to the team.

Creating a variety of menus, with the ability to cater to special dietary requirements.
Producing quality cuisine across the range of outlets in our hotel.
Controlling the Food Control Plan and the daily managing of the CHOMP program.
Having a strong focus on health and safety and NZ food hygiene standards.
Food ordering and stock takes.
Staying within the food budget.
Leading and developing the kitchen team.
The ideal candidate will have:

Minimum 2 years' experience as a Senior Chef or Sous Chef.
Buffet, banquet, and a la carte experience.
A professional approach and a passion for the industry.
The ability to lead, support & mentor a small team.
Excellent communication skills.
A positive work attitude and flexibility with shifts.
Currently resident in New Zealand with appropriate work permit.
Subsidized seasonal staff accommodation can be made available.
Hours of work:
This is a seasonal role on a rotating roster Monday to Sunday; weekends, school holidays, and public holidays will be required to meet hotel demands.
