We know diverse teams are stronger teams and we believe in fairness and opportunity for all.Job DescriptionAs one of three scientists at AsureQuality's Plant Laboratory in Lincoln, you will be a morphological and/or molecular plant pathology expert, performing plant disease diagnostic testing, research, projects and improvements for customers in the arable and horticultural industries.Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, you will join a team of eight people on a full-time permanent basis.Key Responsibilities:• Conduct diagnostic testing in seed pathology, seed technology, and plant pathology using morphological and/or molecular methods.• Develop, evaluate and validate new test technologies and protocols.• Conduct research and specific projects, providing scientific analysis and technical advice.• Promote Plant Health Laboratory services and AsureQuality services to existing and potential customers.• Contribute to the development, documentation, and adherence to the laboratory quality system.Key Requirements:The right person for this role will have:• A tertiary degree or equivalent in plant pathology; MSc or PhD is advantageous.• Four years or more practical laboratory experience in diagnostic plant pathology.• Expertise in one or more specific plant pathology disciplines (e.g., mycology, bacteriology, virology, PCR) is advantageous.• Sound decision-making, excellent computer skills and effective communication skills.• Great team player who is happy to learn from and coach others in the team.Key Benefits:• Permanent position - Start any date during February 2025• Full-time (40 hours per week), Monday to Friday, with start & end time flexibility• Based in Lincoln, at AsureQuality's Plant Health Laboratory• On the job learning & interesting research projects• Friendly team of eight people, with two other scientists in the teamIf you are passionate about plant pathology and want to contribute to the health of New Zealand's agricultural industries, we invite you to express your interest in this position.Helping Aotearoa shape a better food world - Join us today!
