Position: School Counsellor (Part-time, Permanent)
Location: Catholic Cathedral College, Christchurch
Start Date: End of January 2025
FTE: 0.4 (Two days per week, negotiable)
Role Overview:
The school counsellor will offer counselling opportunities to akonga and build relationships of trust. The role is part-time (two days per week) during school hours, term-time only. The current counsellor will continue to work the other three days.
Qualifications:
We are seeking suitably qualified and experienced counsellors or psychologists with appropriate certification/registration. Candidates should enjoy working with young people in Years 7 to 13 and their whanau.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-to-one counselling with students.
Support wellbeing and positive behaviour programmes.
Facilitate class workshops on wellness.
Establish student-led initiatives.
Occasionally lead staff professional learning and development.
Requirements:
Candidates must demonstrate empathy and understanding towards students and their diverse cultures, along with a passion for youth health and wellbeing. Experience in liaising with and developing strong relationships with external agencies and professionals supporting rangatahi is essential.
Employment Agreement:
Secondary Teachers Collective Agreement 2022 - 2025 (if applicant holds current teacher registration) or MoE Concurrence Individual Employment Agreement (promulgated 18 March 2022); pay rate to be negotiated.
Applicants must have the legal right to work in Aotearoa New Zealand, and police vetting will be undertaken for the successful applicant.
