Morven Glenavy Ikawai Irrigation Company – Timaru, South Island
The Morven Glenavy Ikawai Irrigation scheme (MGI) is responsible for supplying water to over 28,000 hectares of farmland in South Canterbury. MGI is committed to providing an excellent water delivery service to all its farmer shareholders and has recently delivered projects to replace leaking lateral water races with pipelines and pump stations to improve efficiency of water delivery.
The office and depot facility are based in Glenavy, just off State Highway 1 and close to the Waitaki River, a short commute from either Oamaru or Glenavy. Our Operations Manager and two Scheme Operators are currently responsible for the day to day running of the scheme during the irrigation season and general maintenance and repairs through the winter.
We are looking for a third Scheme Operator to join our team. Water is delivered continuously throughout the irrigation season and this role will be part of the Operations team roster over the irrigation season, which requires being on call every fourth week, including the weekend.
We are looking for someone with previous experience in either the irrigation sector or in an electrical, mechanical, fitter, plumbing or similar trade. They will be a team player who has a positive attitude, good interpersonal skills and someone who fits in well with our supportive team culture.
To be successful in the role you will be able to build excellent working relationships with shareholders, farm managers, contractors and suppliers, and where required council staff and industry representatives. You will have experience with operating in an effective health and safety culture.
To be effective in this role you will need to develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of:
The company's network of water races and pipes.
The NIWA telemetry system that controls the network.
Pump station operations and maintenance.
Management and operation of monitoring equipment to ensure that the daily water supply requirements are met.
In this role you will also have a range of operational responsibilities, which include:
Scheme maintenance programme and asset management planning.
Scheme maintenance including spraying and cleaning.
Undertake monitoring, maintenance, and repair of pump systems.
Keeping accurate records of asset performance and condition using spreadsheets and/or software systems.
Water take and use reporting.
You'll have:
The ability to work in New Zealand
Practical understanding of mechanical principles
Physical fitness
Quick uptake of new software systems
A full NZ Drivers License
