Barrhill Chertsey Irrigation Limited (BCI) is a farmer-focused co-operative that owns and operates irrigation, electricity generation, and stock water infrastructure capable of delivering water to circa 30,000 ha between the Rangitata and Rakaia Rivers on the East Coast of the South Island, New Zealand. Utilizing over 300km of pipeline, open channel race, 50+ pump stations, and over 200 offtakes, we deliver sustainable, reliable water to a vast array of farming and commercial operations throughout Mid Canterbury. Who are we looking for? With a large volume of future projects to deliver and a strong focus on proactive asset management, BCI is looking for a dedicated individual to join our operations team. The role will include the day-to-day operation of the Barrhill Chertsey and Acton irrigation schemes, ensuring efficient, effective delivery of water, managing shareholders/scheme relationships, monitoring scheme performance using SCADA, providing preventative and reactive maintenance to scheme assets, and working closely with our water ordering and operations teams. You will assist with scheme projects as required and contribute actively to the wider BCI team of 12. Operating 24/7, participating in part of an on-call roster is required. This broad role is ideally suited to a self-starter who can work unsupervised either individually or as part of our wider team. What do you need? Experience operating open channel and piped infrastructure An understanding of pressurised network and open channel hydraulic principles Sound mechanical and electrical aptitude including pumping systems Be physically fit, practical, and keen to self-perform Proficient computer skills with an ability and willingness to learn Experience operating and integrating SCADA networks Observational skills and the ability to think laterally Analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on quality Ability to work unsupervised and display a level of initiative Ability to thrive in a team environment and share learnings Self-reliant and persistent attitude to problem solving and project delivery A detail-focused mind with innovative solutions to unique challenges Excavator operator experience will be an advantage Ability to cover rostered weekend work Ability to cover on-call work What are we offering?
