Head Medical have an opportunity for a General Medicine Staff Grade/ SAS Doctor to work in a supportive collaborative environment located in Gisborne, a beautiful coastal location based on the east coast of the North Island.

The Hospital provides healthcare to a population of approximately 50,000, creating enormous scope and variety in the work.
This is a comprehensive, well-equipped secondary hospital with modern facilities.
Services include gynaecology, obstetrics, child health, medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics, mental health & addiction services, intensive and coronary care, assessment and rehabilitation, emergency department, laboratory, radiology, physiotherapy, dietetics, orthotics, occupational therapy, audiology, social work, domiciliary care and palliative care.
A full range of diagnostic facilities are on site, including a new MRI scanner and CT scanner.
As part of the range of services, the hospital also provides public health, health promotion, primary care and community-based mental health services.
The Hospital is committed to the needs of Maori who make up 65% of admissions to the hospital and form 46.2% of the region's total population.
There is also an active focus on Maori Health issues and respecting Maori culture and customs with regards to patient care.
The Role There are six consultants in the department with sub-specialty interests and an outpatient Cardiologist.
As an integral member of the team, you will participate in medical admissions and management with an unselected medical take, giving you exposure to a wide range of medical presentations and procedures.
There are also a number of educational opportunities including weekly journal club, protected teaching and clinical skills sessions.
The Location Gisborne features a prevalent café culture and restaurants which serve locally sourced fresh produce and award-winning wines from local boutique vineyards.
Local schools are excellent and real estate is affordably priced – there is something ideal to suit your needs from apartments, townhouses, something more rural (lifestyle block) or close to Wainui Beach.
Gisborne enjoys warm summers (up to mid-30s) and mild winters and is considered one of the sunniest places in New Zealand.
It's also the first place to see the sunrise every morning.
Locals enjoy easy access to a fantastic untouched natural environment, which lends itself to such outdoor pastimes as surfing, paddle boarding, fishing, sailing, swimming, mountain biking and hill walking etc.
