Occupational Health & Safety (Human Resources & Recruitment)Full timeBased in Auckland CBD, with occasional travel across the PacificSalary commensurate with skills and experienceAbout the roleThe Safety Officer-NZ ensures the safe operation of Swire Shipping New Zealand Fleet and regionally for Swire Shipping Integrated Logistics (SIL) in the Pacific by facilitating, delivering, and supporting improvements in policy, procedures, and training.Some of the key responsibilities and accountabilities:NZ Fleet H&SConduct safety training on board NZ fleet, undertaking short trips to carry out safety audits and safety campaigns on company policies / procedures.Develop safety awareness across all crew members with visible presence both onboard and through effective mentoring, safety leadership, and routine "safety walks."Join vessel for short trips to monitor crew safety to ensure competence to agreed standards.Organise required training ashore, including annual Safety Awareness Course training for all crew.Monitor onboard safety meetings - provide feedback to senior officers to improve safety standards / safety culture on vessels.Onboard safety monitoring during layups and dockings.Assist Regional Operations Management to monitor safety procedures for work carried out in loading/unloading of cargoes on vessels and in port areas.Work with relevant parties (port authorities, stevedoring companies) to ensure that Swire safety requirements are continually met.H&S for Swire Integrated Logistics (SIL) in the PacificInvestigate and report on all SIL near misses, LTIs, or corrective actions to head office and other relevant parties.Conduct specific site safety audits across the SIL business unit when new designated "projects" are implemented.Oversee the SIL & Depot Operational vendor safety promotions and awards activities and support SIL Country teams with planning and resources for these activities.Handle other administration-related duties such as maintaining the SIL Safety Management Systems Documents register, leading the review, audits, or desktop activities of SIL & Depot operations across the Pacific region.Skills / experience required:Previous experience in a safety role, preferably within an industrial environment.Experience in maritime safety is an advantage.Knowledge of health and safety acts and regulations, and how to interpret them.Excellent facilitation, written and oral communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.About us:Swire Shipping is the wholly owned deep-sea shipping arm of John Swire & Sons Ltd, a privately held company with a long and distinguished history of trading and operating in the Far East.
