Safety & Training Advisor Port Otago Group's business comprises a regional container terminal, bulk port activities, cruise and property investment and development. We service South Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, working with customers to streamline their supply chains. Our culture is hands-on, safety focused and encourages continuous improvement. We are looking for an experienced, down to earth and driven Safety & Training Advisor to join our Safety team based in Port Chalmers, Dunedin. About the role: Reporting directly through to our Head of Safety, our Safety & Training Advisor will be a champion who can provide both safety and training support to our internal and external customers, ensuring a priority focus on safe work practices and striving to keep our people safe. Day to day you will prepare and deliver quality skill-based safety training modules to ensure all Port Otago workers are competent, confident, and safe within their roles. You will also undertake regular workplace inspection/audits and take appropriate action to remove/manage hazards/risks that are identified within our workplace. Furthermore, you will also collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure safety and regulatory compliance, assist in the development and delivery of standard operating procedures, as well as drive continuous improvement projects aligned with the companies' priorities. About you You'll be joining a supportive and collaborative team who thrive working in a fast-paced and often reactive environment. You'll be the type of person who loves getting stuck in to solve problems in a practical way, and who is a master of juggling multiple priorities. But above all else you'll have a positive attitude, resilience in stacks and plenty of initiative. You will have the following Key Attributes: A true passion for Health & Safety – not afraid to speak up, lead by example and act immediately if something is wrong! Proven safety focus and experience in training development/delivery within an operational role, including experience with designing training materials New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety Practice (Level 4) is desirable Trainer & Assessor Qualifications Group facilitation skills Exposure and understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to quickly form strong working relationships. A self-starter who brings a proactive and flexible approach to their work. Strong organisation skills with ability to multi-task and to also plan ahead and forecast Well-developed oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. High level of computer proficiency and be able to demonstrate competency in standard office applications e.g., MS Excel and preparing reports While the port industry has traditionally attracted men, times are changing.
