NPDL operates 9 containerships, moving +240k TEU between AU, NZ and the Pacific Islands, as well as the USA. We have strong partnerships with PIL, CMA, MSK and other lines, moving cargo across 25 customer destinations in 16 countries.
Job DescriptionWhat you will be doing: Governance: Support the Group Depots Manager in all areas related to H&S, including planning and execution of tactical and strategic plans.Support site management in development of the site-specific safety plans, coach and facilitate processes to ensure the successful execution of the plan and ensure regular reviews for continuous improvement.Ensure compliance with all relevant Health & Safety country legislation(s).Lead and facilitate risk assessments, inspections, audits, and incident investigations processes (ICAM) to completion.Provide written reports and presentations to high professional standards.Develop incident investigation learning tools as required i.e., PowerPoint presentations and safety alerts, and submit for approval in a timely fashion.Reporting directly to the Group Depots Manager, this dynamic role as Safety Advisor – Depots and Transport puts you at the heart of our mission to elevate safety and operational performance across NPDL. You'll be a driving force in supporting, coaching and advising internal stakeholders on Health & Safety matters across the business. Specific focus will be on NPDL-wide Container Depots and Transport operations, including internal business units and third-party operations. We're looking for someone passionate about data, using your analytical prowess to create meaningful change.
This role does involve regular site visits across New Zealand, as well as some international travel.
Leadership: Champion field interactions on your sites, coach and train all employees in proper field safety interactions.In conjunction with site management, conduct scheduled EHS visits and workplace inspections in your areas of responsibility.Engage and develop health and safety representatives in your areas of responsibility, establish and promote site committee meetings.Provide essential safety leadership by halting high risk activities when identified and facilitate risk reduction activities to ensure risk is driven down to ALARP.Proactively support the change management process, supporting site leadership teams to ensure operational priorities adequately consider the change risk and comply with the NPDL change management standard.Escalate unresolved issues involving business risks as per reporting structure. Ensure EHS functional managers are always aware of all EHS risks.Lead incident investigations as required.Provide ongoing education/training of the EHS Management system to all employees, supervisors and managers and ensure training and competency is reviewed regularly.Ensure training need analysis are current, site training records are accurate, available, and maintained as per NPDL training standards.Other: Ensure all Company and statutory requirements for injury management are met for injured employees, including allocation of alternate duties and minimisation of time off work.Ensure that Return to Work Plans are developed, authorised by management and adhered to across the business.Co-ordinate and conduct monitoring of the work environment. This may involve the measurement of various quantifiable hazards, dust, noise etc.Address all environmental issues.QualificationsWhat you will bring to the table: A passion for data and desire to learn.Exceptional analytical skills and proficiency in database management and reporting tools.At least 3 years of relevant experience in a similar role.Strong communication and influencing skills that make you a collaborative team player.An ability to present findings and new initiatives.This is a full-time permanent role based in Auckland.
