We are seeking Rural Health Medical Specialists or Medical Officers to join Dargaville, Kaitaia and Bay of Islands Hospitals.
Te Whatu Ora Te Tai Tokerau is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and holds stewardship for equitable health outcomes for Maori as Tangata Whenua as the highest priority. Our hospital serves a high Maori, high needs population and we are committed to considering the principles of Te Tiriti in all the work that we do.
Bay of Islands Hospital is located in Kawakawa and provides care to the people of the Mid North region. The 20-bed hospital includes comprehensive medical and paediatric services with all the supporting services and also provides a substantial community health service.
Kaitaia Hospital is a small rural hospital serving a widely scattered population of approximately 24,000. The 28-bed hospital has a mixed general, paediatric and maternity ward with all the supporting services. The range of medical care managed at Kaitaia Hospital is complex and interesting, providing care for the growing population as well as the huge influx of tourists in the summer period.
Dargaville Hospital is a 12-bed rural hospital with an Acute Assessment Unit, Outpatient clinics and many community-based services. The cases managed at Dargaville Hospital are complex and interesting.
All three rural hospitals are largely supported by Whangarei Hospital in providing secondary care services.
Our teams are fun loving and hardworking, striving for quality health care that is second to none. We are looking for dynamic team players to provide medical care to patients presenting to Accident and Medical departments as well as outpatients and inpatients. We are looking for someone to ideally bring rural medicine experience; however, we are open to hearing from those with the commitment to learn and grow in this niche specialty.
To be considered, you must have or be eligible for specialist (or locum tenens) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in a Rural Hospital Medicine scope of practice.
