Our 200+ staff are diverse in their backgrounds, skillsets, and location, spread across three Invercargill offices (Forth Street, 20 and 42 Don Street) and seven area offices situated at Riverton, Otautau, Te Anau, Winton, Oban, Lumsden, and Wyndham.
About the role:
Our transport team oversees a 5,000 km roading network across the Southland district connecting over 30,000 residents within our community.
We are looking for an experienced engineer to join our dedicated team to assist with the management of all aspects of roading activities to ensure our service levels are met to a high standard and in a timely manner.
Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
First point of contact for any complex or out-of-ordinary roading operation matters.
Lead the transport team's resource consent applications and processing.
Providing engineering advice on matters relating to activities within the roading network.
Developing and strengthening positive links with the public, representing Council at community meetings where required.
Participating in projects and initiatives at regional and national levels.
Assisting with the development and implementation of contracts, strategic plans, reviews, and new initiatives.
Maintaining knowledge and oversight of transport activities, bylaws, policies, and procedures.
Managing the annual rehab and minor works programmes.
To be successful in this role you will need to have:
A strong understanding of resource consenting processes and requirements including condition of consenting.
Strong technical understanding of transport and road engineering including subdivision/land development.
The ability to liaise effectively with our contractors, community representatives, and ratepayers.
Ability to understand technical information quickly and communicate it to audiences at different levels of understanding.
A broad understanding of the local government environment and service delivery.
Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
To be considered for the role you will need to hold a relevant tertiary qualification in civil/transport engineering or have significant roading engineering experience along with a sound understanding of resource consenting applications and assessments.
