Resource Management Policy Planner (Senior)

Details of the offer

All about the job
It is an exciting time for Resource Management planners with lots of changes at both the regional and central government level, all of which needs policy analysis, submissions, evidence and potentially court work.
With the Proposed Porirua District Plan almost operative, the team are now looking forward to improving and updating the plan with some major plan changes.
The Proposed District Plan aims to weave the requirements of the Resource Management Act with the Council's strategic directions which are:

Commit to the health of Te Awarua-o-Porirua Harbour and its catchment through investment, advocacy and regulation
Build towards a low carbon city and proactively address the challenges of climate change
Create thriving communities where everyone can be safe and healthy – at home, work or play
Keep tamariki and rangatahi at the heart of our city

We have a vacancy for a Planner to join the team for a fixed term of two years. We will happily consider applications from capable and driven planners of all levels of experience – from recently graduated to an experienced Senior Planner. The right role for the right person!
You will work in a small and experienced team of senior and principal planners who can offer mentoring to fast track your career in district planning. You will primarily be responsible for:

working in partnership with Ngati Toa on district planning
assisting and/or overseeing major new plan changes, including leading engagement
supporting and advising on regional processes, including those coming out of Greater Wellington Regional Council and the Wellington Regional Leadership Committee
providing analysis and advice on central and regional government policy changes and how to respond
supporting the Council's climate change response including implementation through the District Plan.

All about you
This will be a career defining role with a competitive salary on offer to recognise the skills and experience you will bring. You will have some exposure to the RMA or you may be a specialist, but more importantly you will understand local government, be culturally informed and confident working with diverse communities and thrive in a fast paced environment. We want someone who is driven to keep up-to-date and informed of changes to the legislation.
You'll also have a good understanding of the value of community networks and internal partnerships and need to demonstrate that you:

have experience working with the Resource Management Act, anywhere from novice to 7 years' experience;
have a solid understanding of local authorities and of the district plan development process;
thrive working effectively in a small, hardworking and dynamic team;
have excellent written communication skills and are comfortable, or willing to develop your confidence with public speaking and leading meetings or workshops;
have excellent analytical, conceptual thinking and problem solving abilities OR bring a constructive, inquisitive approach to problem solving and resolving issues; and
have a strong relationship management focus that inspires trust and confidence and builds productive relationships with key stakeholders as well as decision-makers
