This role sits within our Zone Delivery team based in Timaru and provides a mix of office and field-based work. A typical day may include liaising with a diverse range of people, including residents, farmers, and business owners, and assessing whether their activities are compliant. As you develop your skills you will respond to general complaints and, when necessary, undertake enforcement processes within the Resource Management Act.
The role will focus on: Responding to pollution events & general enquiries in our environment Attending sites & engaging with landowners & the public Support to ensure effective and timely delivery of zone priorities Investigating incidents & recording observations Support the implementation of an integrated & aligned incident response programme Report writing and producing feedback Upholding compliance with regulations & regional rules Support the community to understand & implement best practices Our Environment Canterbury southern zone covers an area from the Rangitata River south to the southern edge of the Waitaki River catchment. Our people work and play within this area, in the mountains and the rivers, and proactively support the community to improve their environmental management approach across southern Canterbury.
You'll ideally have a relevant tertiary qualification in science, environmental management, or resource management; or the equivalent, evidenced, relevant work experience in this field. You may also have one to three years of experience in a regulatory environment, preferably aligned to resource management.
