We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic planners at Planner, Intermediate and Senior levels to join our Resource Consents Department, where we process more than 17,000 consents annually.
You will have the opportunity to play a key role in, and work on, a variety of development projects including:
Comprehensive residential, commercial, retail, industrial, urban expansion, regeneration, heritage, and urban and rural subdivision;
Sensitive rural and coastal areas;
Nationally and regionally significant infrastructure;
High profile events;
Maori outcomes (including marae and papakainga); and
Protection of air, land, and water resources.
You will learn about the wider aspects of the consenting business in our rapidly growing region where no two days are the same. You will join a department where collaboration and customer service are at the forefront of our service delivery, with support and technical guidance available for your personal growth and career progression. You will provide accurate professional advice to applicants and the public, working efficiently and collaboratively to achieve quality outcomes. Providing advice at pre-application meetings, assessing, and making recommendations on resource consent applications.
We have a number of exciting opportunities across the region:
Senior Planners - apply your planning expertise to the assessment of resource consent applications and make recommendations that foster high quality outcomes. You will also attend Council hearings as a reporting officer and have opportunities to represent Council as an expert witness. You will also assist your Team Leader with mentoring and developing junior planners and on occasions be a 2IC for your Team Leader and make decisions on resource consents. (4-7+ years' experience).
Intermediate Planners - apply your planning expertise to the assessment of resource consent applications and make recommendations that foster high quality outcomes. You will also attend Council hearings as a reporting officer and may represent Council as an expert witness. (2-4 years' experience).

He korero mou: About you
You will bring with you anywhere from graduate level to seven years+ of planning experience, and a tertiary qualification in urban planning, resource management or in a similar field preferably acknowledged by NZPI. With a strong working knowledge of the Resource Management Act 1991 and an awareness of the coming legislative changes, you will have a high level of customer service and collaboration skills with excellent case management, written and verbal communication. Most of all, you will have a desire to be part of Local Government where you can make a difference and help us to obtain good environmental outcomes! While we encourage the use of public transport, you will also need to hold a restricted or full, clean New Zealand driver's licence to drive our Council vehicles.
