We are currently looking for an experienced Technician to join our team on a 12-month fixed term contract. This role will contribute to a research program that aims to understand the causes and mechanisms of Motor Neuron Disease. You will be responsible for research support including experimentation, training, and administration. Key Accountabilities Act as the laboratory technician supporting research studies in the lab Carry out, and train postgraduate students to carry out, experiments on human brain tissue and/or cultured cells Ensure all materials and equipment are purchased, stocked, and maintained appropriately Maintain lab records including budget-keeping Understand and comply with specific legal and regulatory requirements of the lab generally Mo to matou ropu | About the team At Te Kura Matauranga Koiora | the School of Biological Sciences, teach and conduct research across all scales of the living world, from molecules to ecosystems. Modern biology is also interdisciplinary, and embraces other STEM disciplines, including chemistry, mathematics, statistics, and computer science. The Faculty of Science's Technical Services Team comprises over 100 technical staff providing specialist support to the Faculty's academic staff and students across 9 of the 10 Departments. They contribute technical knowledge and expertise to research and teaching activities while ensuring the ongoing operation and compliance of a vast range of laboratories, workshops, teaching facilities and research equipment. Our ideal candidate will have a BSc (Hons) or MSc (or equivalent) in Biomedical Science, Biological Science, Pharmacology or Physiology and have relevant laboratory experience. You will be required to have excellent technical skills and thorough working knowledge in either mammalian cell culture and/ or immunohistochemistry and related techniques, as well as laboratory management. • Self-motivated and well organised with excellent time management • Meticulous record-keeping skills • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written • Integrity, adaptability, and flexibility • Ability to work independently and as a team member Me pehea te tuku tono | How to apply Apply today!
