This internship role provides an opportunity to develop the intern's knowledge of the Maori revitalisation sector by providing hands-on experience with supporting the research function at Te Matawai.
The intern will directly support Te Matatupu (the data and research team) in executing their annual work plan. The intern is expected to contribute to data collection, data analysis, and other key processes in research and monitoring of te reo Maori related data. This role provides an opportunity for the intern to be exposed to the Maori language revitalisation movement for kainga, hapori and iwi.
Key Accountabilities The following key accountabilities of this role will make contribution towards the data and research needs of Te Matawai:
Supporting the collection and use of te reo Maori data relating to intergenerational transmission, speech communities, and family wellbeing.
Supporting regional leaders in expanding their use of te reo Maori research and data.
Enhancing our language planning tool.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience Be studying towards or have an interest in Maori studies, Te Reo Maori and/or sociolinguistics.
Be familiar with research and/or monitoring and evaluation.
Have the ability to proactively manage your own workload and collaborate with associates and partners across the assigned project/s.
Think critically about problems and explore broadly for solutions.
Have good communication skills in both written and oral contexts.
Be a passionate advocate for the revitalisation of Te Reo Maori and actively participate in (kanohi kitea) Te Ao Maori.
Have good research, analytical and documenting skills.
Have a sound understanding of tikanga and Treaty of Waitangi principles.
Have an understanding of Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint for document management.
Have a great work ethic, attitude and enjoy working as a team member, at a high level, and working collectively to get results.

Senior Strategic Advisor
Te Matatu - Strategy and Policy team
Tumu Whakarae
The position may also be required to build and maintain relationships with external organisations.
