Research Associate

Details of the offer

Opo Bio's a startup developing the enabling technology for biomanufacturing at scale, including producing cultivated meat and cell-derived collagen. We use world-leading science to solve the industry's biggest challenges, developing cell lines and matched media. If you want to be part of a high-performing, high-paced technical team based in Newmarket, Auckland get in touch!
The role
We're looking for a driven and technically proficient researcher ready to make an impact and bring our novel biotech products (cell lines and animal derived products like collagen) to market.
As a research team member, you'll lead and execute experiments focused on developing our cell line products. You'll be designing, implementing, and troubleshooting experiments with varying levels of autonomy, consistently maintaining high standards of excellence. Because our team is small, you will also have the opportunity to develop skills in other areas of the business. You will be directly reporting to the CSO.
What We're Looking For
At Opo, attitude is everything. We want a highly motivated, self-driven individual who is excellent at mammalian cell culture, or has demonstrated excellence in a closely related field. If you thrive in a fast-paced lab environment and enjoy multitasking, this could be the perfect fit for you.
Desired skills/experience include:
BSc Honours/MSc/PhD or related discipline, completed within the past 12-24 months
Experience in bioreactor culture
Proficiency in mammalian cell culture
Strong background in cellular and molecular biology techniques (e.g., microscopy, flow cytometry)
Ability to work independently and in collaborative team settings
Legal right to work in New Zealand
Your Responsibilities:
Design, execute, and document experimental protocols
Contribute to drafting data for patents and publications
Provide internal project reports and updates
Monitor and stay current with relevant scientific literature
We have multiple roles available including fixed-term and permanent. All are full-time based on-site at Opo HQ. Flexibility is required at times to accommodate work outside normal business hours.
If you think you have what it takes but don't meet all the criteria above please get in touch or apply with a cover letter clearly addressing your strengths and why you'd excel at this role.
We will be assessing applications from day one until a suitable candidate is identified, so don't wait to apply.
