Registrar - Orthopaedics Location: Southland Hospital

Join us as we change the future of healthcare in Southern NZ Excellent support and opportunities for development through a high level of SMO contact and supervision Close to some of New Zealand's most famous national parks and ski fields Mo te turanga - About the role You'll be part of a dedicated team providing comprehensive elective general orthopaedic services, as well as 24-hour Orthopaedic Trauma and Orthopaedic Emergency care. You will also have the opportunity to undertake regular outpatient clinics in Queenstown. There are 2 trainees and 4 non-trainee positions as well as a trauma senior house officer.
One year of accredited training at any level for RACS / NZOA trainees. The opportunity to work in a modern facility and provide healthcare to a large geographical area, ensuring your exposure to a wide range of work.
The department has one hour registrar teaching and one hour general orthopaedic update session. We have comprehensive weekly audit and x-ray meetings and discussions, patient case reviews, journal club and practical workshops as part of our regular teaching schedule.
The scope of your work will be varied and will include exposure to a range of subspecialties including:
Diverse and complex trauma from ski and mountain bike fields Primary and revision joint replacement of the hip, knee and shoulder Elective and trauma Paediatric surgery, hand surgery as well as general Orthopaedic cover Mou ake - About you Our ideal candidate will have: Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. A minimum of two years' post qualification experience, preferably including at least six months Orthopaedic experience. Qualifications approved through EPIC as per NZ Medical Council requirements. Utu whanui - Salary range This role is covered by the terms and conditions of New Zealand Resident Doctors' Association & 20 DHB Multi Employer Collective 17 May 2021 - 31 March 2024 (NZRDA MECA) and Specialty Trainees of New Zealand and 20 District Health Boards Multi Employer Collective Agreement 14 December 2021 - 13 December 2023 (the STONZ MECA) and the salary will fall between $140,741 - $211,100 dependant on relevant experience.
