Support with parenting that promotes parent and family well-being will be a regular part of your role, as will collaborating and consulting with wider interdisciplinary teams on a daily basis.What we OfferOngoing professional development and trainingFlexible Leave optionsExtensive opportunities to develop your skill, experience and understanding within the early intervention, disability sectorAbout youNew Zealand Registered Psychologist, with relevant post graduate diploma and current Practicing Certificate is essential.A sound knowledge of child development, preferably with experience in the field of neurodevelopmental disability and children presenting with Autism, Down Syndrome, extreme prematurity or other genetic conditions.Strong communication skills, ability to connect with children, families and other professionals in a responsive, respectful manner, within a family partnership model.Team player who can work effectively and collaboratively as a member of interdisciplinary teams.Skill and experience providing comprehensive developmental and psychological assessment and therapeutic intervention.Knowledge and experience with a range of therapeutic models such as CBT, Positive Behaviour Support, ACT, Theraplay, Triple-P, Incredible Years, Grief and Trauma-informed, Neuro-affirming approach.Ability to use critical and analytical thinking in evaluating evidence in the context of complex childhood disability and applying it to clinical practice.Skills to provide consultation to therapy team members, preschool staff, support staff, paediatricians, and parents.About usThe Champion Centre provides a multi-disciplinary early intervention and monitoring services to infants and young children up to the age of 6 with developmental disabilities and their families in Canterbury. The programme is offered in a unique, centre-based model of service, in partnership with parents, and in accordance with international best practice.We offer several services at the Centre including:Weekly early intervention programmes for children from birth to primary school age who have delays in at least two or more areas of development.A monitoring programme for children who are at developmental risk either due to prematurity or some other health-related vulnerability.Children who attend the centre have a wide range of developmental needs. These include Down syndrome, other genetic disorders, cerebral palsy, extreme prematurity, epilepsy, autism spectrum disorder and brain injury.
