Health NZ Te Whatu Ora provide high-quality evidence-based practice for individuals with primary addiction problems. Based at Westport – the role is to engage with those people who need assessment for, and clinical follow-up for opioid dependence as part of the Rata Opioid Substitution Treatment Programme.
This may also include working alongside mental health professionals for consumers who have serious mental illness, which is complicated by co-existing substance misuse.
Travel for work-related business and clinical training may be required at times.
The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to forge and sustain therapeutic relationships with clients, and to harmoniously work alongside other health professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide specialist alcohol and drug assessment and treatment services to referred consumers, utilizing appropriate assessment and treatment procedures.
Collaborate with mental health professionals to develop effective treatment strategies for consumers with serious mental illness complicated by substance misuse.
Support mental health colleagues in managing consumers with primary mental illness and co-existing drug and alcohol issues.
Develop flexible and tailored treatment plans for consumers to support their recovery journey.
Complete clinical tasks in a timely manner, including assessment, treatment, risk management, case support, consumer education, family/whanau caregiver involvement, and group facilitation as needed.
Participate in the provision of education to health professionals, referral agencies, consumers, and their significant others to promote health education and service.
Essential Requirements:
NZ Registered Health Professional with a current Practising Certificate.
Demonstrated commitment to understanding the implications for Maori Health as outlined in the Treaty of Waitangi.
Willingness to support and participate in the organisation's commitment to biculturalism.
Experience working in either the drug and alcohol or mental health fields.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Ability to develop and maintain effective networks.
Willingness to engage in ongoing professional education and training.
Basic computer literacy and the ability to learn and effectively use workplace computer systems.
Current Driver's License (may need to drive manual vehicles at times).
Desirable Skills and Experience:
Knowledge of Opioid Substitution Treatment (OST) and understanding of the regulatory framework.
Experience in professional supervision.
Proficiency in Motivational Interviewing techniques.
Qualifications/experience in adult education.
