Skills, experience and education requirements:
- Preferably, an educational background in social work study, Psychology or counselling.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Proficiency in English language - spoken and written skills.
- Ability to fluently speak at least one Indian, Asian, or African language.
- Ability to work with client database Excess and update regularly.
- Be adept at working in a cross- cultural environment.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety.
- Ability to prioritise task and make sound decisions during crisis.
- Have a full and valid Driver's License and own transport.
Specific duties and responsibilities:
Overall management of the Refuge:
- Ensuring Client and service Confidentiality, Crisis Management, Risk management, crisisline duty 24/7
- Ensuring Refuge provides safety and empowerment-based services to clients.
- Ensuring that regular checks are in place to monitor the efficiency of the Safehouse
- Ensure the administrative duties are carried out, e.g. Preparing monthly/annual reports as and when required.
- Ensure that team meetings are held to discuss day-to-day operations.
- Liaise with Social Workers to identify client needs whilst in Safehouse, including scheduling non- advocacy trips to work and Income.
- Planning transportation needs for training and other trips to medical centres, etc. for clients.
- Efficient individual client intake and assessment is done at all times.
- Client needs are identified and an agreed plan of action is executed and followed up.
- Client confidentiality is maintained at all times.
- Ensuring all client data is entered on the Exess database system.
- When required attend to clients' needs.
- Culturally appropriate referrals are made if required.
- Maintain the organisation's QA Standard in line with Shakti's policy.
- Work in partnership with other team members and Regional Refuge Service Delivery Manager to access and monitor Clients' cases.
Advocacy:
- Advocating for clients with various government departments, Police, justice system, etc. And ensure that clients receive adequate support for cases.
- Advocacy with clients: (includes assisting clients in Social welfare, Housing, Immigration, Justice, Schooling, and Education).
- Advocacy should be based on the empowerment model, however where safety is a concern, due consideration should be given and policies followed to ensure maximum safety.
Police Meeting:
- Regional interagency Police meeting attendance.
- Exess Database updated regularly.
Child Access:
- In joint custody, the Child will require support from the Refuge to attend to Child access.
Database Management:
- Ability to use Access database, the orientation will be provided as this is a key tool for the documentation of clients. Use of Exess database is statutory.
SDETAT Life Skills' training:
- Work closely with SDETAT Life Skill training Administrator to refer Client to programmes, towards Clients' future empowerment.
Safehouse Finance management:
- Work collaboratively with Accountant and Centre Administrator to submit the ledger report in a timely manner.
- Ensure the smooth financial functioning of the safe house.
- Ensure financial paperwork is kept up to date.
- Regular monthly reports and budget reports are prepared.
- Ensure smooth cashflow.
Learning to understand and implement core business (Domestic violence, social services provision, and training and development):
- Attend Domestic Violence training: understand the service delivery.
- Learn and assist in Crisis management.
- Attend other training offered internally and externally to understand the service provided.
- Being a part of the Crisis Duty Team.
- Participate in Crisis call Centre duty – during and after office hours.
- Be responsible for the maintenance of Crisis call data.
- Knowledge and experience in Domestic violence issues specific of ethnic women:
o To provide language expertise in the at least one ethnic language.
o To provide ethnic culture expertise and socio-cultural understanding of at least one Asian/African/Middle Eastern ethnicity with regard to domestic violence.
Service Delivery:
- In improving the organisation's standard of Service Delivery:
o To oversee the day-to-day operations of the safe house and to ensure the safe house is operating effectively and efficiently.
o Where appropriate, provide supervision to other staff members and volunteers.
o Contribute to monthly reports including statistical data and MSD quarterly reports.
General Advocacy & Networking:
- Maintain existing networks and develop new networks with key agencies.
- Identify current network members and maintain ongoing correspondence.
- Communication links with external agencies (Refuges, NGOs, Courts, Hospitals, Lawyers, Police, local and national networks, ethnic communities, women's network (CEDAW, UN, PWW), etc.
- Regularly attend networking meetings to establish and promote the organisation's profile within the communities.
- Contribute to developing and updating network database on a regular basis.
- Participate in any internal conferences, national meetings, etc. as needed.
Health and Safety management of the Refuge:
- Submit Health and Safety audit checklist report to Regional Refuge Service Delivery Manager
