Te Oranga o te Ao Turoa | Our vision: Nature is thriving in Aotearoa
The Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) serves to protect and restore nature spaces and species across Aotearoa.
Tangata whenua are inextricably linked to the whenua and te taiao, and we desire a future where whanau, hapu and iwi can thrive in their role as rangatira and kaitiaki.
The key purpose of this role is to lead the delivery of funded heritage protection initiatives. This is a new role in DOC, so the ideal candidate is someone able to work collaboratively with Senior Rangers Heritage and Visitors in the Eastern South Island, the Senior Heritage Advisor and Supervisor to develop a strategic work program that they can then deliver.
The position will be focused on:
Carrying out work at place aimed at maintaining or improving the condition of 'places of heritage work'. This could include: Undertaking hands-on heritage maintenance work.
Supporting baseline recording of heritage assets.
Undertaking audits and inventory & data management.

Providing support to the Senior Rangers Heritage and Visitors and SHA with the scoping, planning, and delivery of heritage projects. This could include: Leading the delivery of funded heritage projects including contractor management, working with consultants, tracking project deliverables & budgets.
Scoping potential future heritage projects, developing business cases & applying for funding.
Working with community groups that want to undertake heritage work.
Help develop & deliver heritage training initiatives.

If you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you:
Knowledge and/or practical skills in heritage management practices & techniques.
Ability to lead the development of detailed strategic work plans.
Project and contractor management experience.
Creative problem-solving skills.
Strong written and oral communication abilities.
Proven expertise in relationship management and stakeholder influence, including working with Maori and iwi communities.
Background in grant writing.
Relevant tertiary qualification.
Even if you don't tick all the boxes but believe your skills and experience closely align, then we still encourage you to apply.
DOC places importance on developing a culture where everyone can participate, thrive, and grow. We're working towards being an organisation that is diverse, equitable and inclusive by default.
Apply online with a CV and cover letter that highlights your relevant skills, experience and motivation for joining Te Papa Atawhai. You will also need to download and complete the Self-Assessment document and attach this to your application. The Self-Assessment document can be found in our DOC Careers Centre under this job listing.
