This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the preservation and improvement of important facilities and structures across the Central North Island. The position will be focussed on:
Overseeing critical maintenance projects across the Central North Island region.
Developing and implementing maintenance plans for buildings, bridges, and other structures.
Managing a diverse portfolio of deferred maintenance tasks in multiple districts.
Ensuring the safety, functionality, and longevity of DOC facilities and infrastructure.
Collaborating with various supervisors and stakeholders to prioritize and execute maintenance work.
Traveling to assess, plan, and oversee projects in different locations across the Central North Island region.
Applying hands-on building trade experience to solve complex maintenance challenges.
Balancing preservation needs with modern safety and accessibility requirements, especially for heritage sites.
Coordinating with contractors and internal teams to complete maintenance projects efficiently and effectively.

Hands-on building trade experience, with a focus on maintenance and repairs.
Proven ability in developing and implementing maintenance plans for diverse structures, including buildings and bridges.
Project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple deferred maintenance projects across various districts.
Willingness and ability to travel between districts, including overnight stays throughout the Central North Island region.
Experience working independently and collaboratively with different supervisors across multiple locations.
Excellent reporting skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and stakeholders.
Full Clean New Zealand Driver's Licence
Strong problem-solving abilities to address complex maintenance issues in a cost-effective manner.
High level of fitness and competence when operating in a backcountry environment.
Desirable:
Working at heights ticket.
Wheels, tracks, and rollers certification.
Class 2 driver's license (preferred).
Dangerous goods handling certification.
Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and environmental compliance related to facility maintenance.
