The salary range for this position is $68,535 to $86,423.
Full-time, 24-month fixed-term opportunity based on Rakiura Stewart Island.

Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) serves to protect and restore nature spaces and species across Aotearoa.
You will be joining our dedicated dotterel team on Rakiura in leading the delivery of the Southern New Zealand Dotterel Pukunui Recovery Plan, in efforts to stem the ongoing decline of the Nationally Critical Southern New Zealand Dotterel Pukunui. The last annual Southern New Zealand Dotterel count recorded only 101 birds remaining, a decline of 19% of the population from the previous year. Time is running out for this species.
The establishment of this new position is proposed to respond to the increasingly complex needs of a growing recovery programme. This is largely an office-based role, with a focus on facilitating the delivery of predator control work and dotterel monitoring. There will be some opportunities to contribute to the field programme. As a Project Lead, you will lead work delivery, manage budgets, and collaborate on strategic planning with the Senior Ranger to drive the recovery programme.
The position will be focused on:
Leading the delivery of the SNZD recovery programme
Managing procurement contractor relationships
Managing sponsorship funds
Guiding, supporting, and training others within their areas of speciality
Overseeing data management and reporting
Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, community groups, and iwi, whanau, and hapu.

Experience in leading complex work programmes.
Experience leading pest animal control operations.
Proven skills in logistics management.
Excellent communication, relationship management, and leadership skills.
Critical thinking ability with experience in project leadership, including planning, implementation, resource prioritisation, supervision, and reporting within budget and timelines.
Outstanding planning and organisational skills, with attention to detail and a commitment to achieving team objectives.
Ability to translate technical information into easily understood concepts for non-technical audiences.
Strong commitment to health and safety practices, with the ability to promote this culture among others.
A broad range of biodiversity field experience, including species management.
Proven back-country experience, including proficiency with GPS.
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
A tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in conservation, ecology, or biology.
