This part-time role is responsible for maintaining the natural habitats and ecosystems within our nature reserve.
As a Ranger, you will play a vital role in conserving the local flora and fauna, ensuring the sustainable management of our unique wildlife.
We are looking for a Ranger to regularly work Fridays and Saturdays at Nga Manu Nature Reserve, with the flexibility to work other casual days of the week during peak season (summer and school holidays) and to cover team members leave.What you'll be doingAnimal husbandry and monitoring the health and welfare of native wildlifeMaintaining reserve infrastructure to keep the reserve accessible and safe for visitorsImplementing conservation management plans, including species protection, habitat restoration, and weed/pest controlEducating visitors about the importance of conservation and the unique ecosystems within the nature reserve by delivering talks and tours to both small and large groups, including school groups.Assisting with record keeping, research and data collection to support our ongoing conservation effortsCollaborating with the broader Nga Manu Trust team to achieve our organisational goalsWhat we're looking forRelevant qualifications or experience in conservation, environmental management, or a related fieldPractical experience in conservation, park management, animal husbandry or a similar roleStrong understanding of native New Zealand flora and fauna, as well as ecological principlesExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with the public including school groups.Passion for environmental protection and a commitment to sustainable practicesWillingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasksA valid driver's licence and the ability to operate light machinery and equipmentA can-do attitude and a willingness to step in and help with a wide variety of tasks to support our small team.
