How would you like to live and work within Aotearoa's stunningly scenic Coromandel Peninsula? Join Te Papa Atawhai Department of Conservation to deliver conservation outcomes amongst the Whitianga District.
The Kaitiaki Ranger is a crucial operational role that will support and lead across all work programmes. Depending on the time of year, this role will assist and skipper in marine vessel operations, work with volunteers and students to achieve conservation outcomes, complete track and visitor facility maintenance, and support the biodiversity team in pest and predator control, and native species monitoring.
The day-to-day work will be field-based but will include some office time to support field delivery and the team. The role involves semi-regular trips away overnight (3-7 days at a time) in order to efficiently complete the busy work programme. Some of these trips are planned in advance, while some will be at short notice. When working away on overnight trips, an allowance will be paid.

Relevant qualifications and experience operating marine vesselsRelevant qualifications and experience working with volunteers and/or studentsFlexibility and adaptability to cope with changing priorities at short noticeSelf-motivated person, who can operate well in a team environmentSkilled collaborator, team player, with emotional intelligenceFull New Zealand driver licence, comfortable driving a manual vehicle on narrow, gravel roadsThe successful candidate will have a willingness to be trained to be able to carry out the following tasks, or have experience in some or all of these tasks:
Small machine use including weed eaters, lawnmowersDIY, basic carpentry and building skillsGrow Safe CertificationFirst Aid CertificationTramping or backcountry experience/skillsFour-wheel drive unit standardsLight Utility Vehicle (LUV) unit standardsWeed control and pest plant identificationAnimal pest control and monitoringMo te tima | About the team The Regional Operations Group is responsible for delivering conservation work on the ground through our Biodiversity, Heritage and Visitor, Community Engagement and Visitor Centre teams.

The salary range for this position is $55,684 - $66,578 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
