He angitutanga | About the role

We are looking for a versatile ranger to work across our Biodiversity, Heritage, and Visitor work programmes across the Coastal Otago region. Your day-to-day work will be diverse, offering the opportunity to gain a range of conservation skills across various teams and environments. You will support with:

managing assigned project work

managing visitor and historic assets

maintaining facilities and restoring sites

weed management

maintaining and cleaning front/back country amenities

supporting the community teams as required.

You may be required to stay away overnight for multiple days in the backcountry, often in remote and rugged terrain.

This role is outdoor focused with plenty of fieldwork opportunities. We're looking for someone who loves the outdoors and enjoys doing something different each day. If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:

Current full New Zealand driver licence.

General maintenance and/or landscaping experience.

Experience with operating small lawn tractors and mowers.

Knowledge of field delivery work.

Familiar with weed spraying and ability to use weed eaters/scrub bars and carry 15 litre knapsack.

Strong health and safety focus.

Good level of physical fitness with backcountry experience.

Good people skills with an ability to work as part of a team and independently.

Desirable:

Approved Handlers Certificate.

Current First Aid certificate.

Experience and qualifications with use of chainsaws, weed eaters, scrub bars and 4WDS, LUV.

Carpentry, construction or building skills and experience.

Mo te tima | About the team

The Coastal Otago Operations team, based in Dunedin and part of the Southern South Island Region, is led by the Operations Manager and comprises 23 permanent staff across the Community, Heritage and Visitors, and Biodiversity teams. Prioritising and scheduling work is co-ordinated by 3 Supervisors and 3 Senior Rangers.

We are a dynamic team with a deep passion for conservation and a culture of inclusivity and support for each other. Within Operations, you will join the Community team, you'll focus on building robust community relationships and advocating for conservation values. Your mahi will include diverse tasks supporting the wider district's efforts across all three teams.
