Ranger Community (Statutory) at Department of Conservation, InvercargillYour opportunity to contribute to conservation outcomes in a role focused on statutory processing for the Murihiku district.The salary range for this position is $60,314 to $75,603.Permanent, full-time role based in Murihiku/ Invercargill.Our vision: Nature is thriving in Aotearoa | Te Oranga o te Ao TuroaDepartment of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) serves to protect and restore nature spaces and species across Aotearoa.This Community Ranger role has the focus on the statutory elements of community work.You'll be part of an energetic and hard-working community operations team, supporting and delivering statutory work and building/maintaining community relationships. You will be unpicking legislation and researching the conservation values of a piece of conservation land or looking at a piece of land in ARCGIS, analysing an application, or working with colleagues across the region on larger scale applications.In this role you will:Process permit applications for activities such as disturbing wildlife, filming, aircraft activity, grazing and easements.Provide high quality input on Resource Management and Crown Pastoral Land Act processes, including describing affected conservation values and recommending outcomes to avoid/minimise the effects on these values.Monitor commercial or private activity on public conservation land.Provide field support for statutory land management functions.Provide administrative, liaison and advocacy support to projects that seek to achieve more conservation through greater involvement of iwi, business and the wider community.Liaise with team members through the Department to understand and incorporate their expertise and support the Operations Manager to fulfil their role as Decision Maker for these processes.We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated team member with excellent people skills to effectively work with a variety of stakeholders.If you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you:Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to foster effective relationships with iwi/hapu/whanau, the community, volunteer groups and businesses.Ability to write clearly and concisely using plain English, to provide context, critical analysis, and logical recommendations for decision makers.Understanding of New Zealand's government annexation processes.Ability to interpret and apply legislation, policy, and management documents.Experience working in a compliance and regulatory environment.A proactive mindset with excellent organisational skills, and ability to prioritise competing demands.Willingness to participate in external stakeholder engagements, attend meetings, and conduct site visits.A valid full New Zealand driver licence.Experience in working with and partnering with statutory authorities, community groups, iwi or business groups.Understanding of Resource Management Act (RMA).Experience in primary industries, particularly farming and mining.Knowledge of the Murihiku district.Mo te tima | About the teamAs part of the Murihiku Operations team, you will join a tight-knit team, who genuinely enjoy working with each other, and are passionate about the work they do.
