Your opportunity to contribute to conservation outcomes, focused on statutory processing for the Central Otago District, collaborate with iwi and external groups on conservation projects.The salary range for this position is $60,314 to $75,603.Permanent, full-time role based in Wanaka or Alexandra, with flexible working options.While this role is currently based at Wanaka or Alexandra, the main district office is expected to relocate to Cromwell, and this role may be based there in the future.Our vision: Nature is thriving in Aotearoa | Te Oranga o te Ao TuroaThe Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) serves to protect and restore nature spaces and species across Aotearoa.Tangata whenua are inextricably linked to the whenua and te taiao, and we desire a future where whanau, hapu and iwi can thrive in their role as rangatira and kaitiaki.This role focuses on the statutory elements of community work and includes a range of work to support the delivery of conservation outcomes.
You will engage with iwi/ hapu/ whanau, build volunteer opportunities, and maintain effective stakeholder relationships with businesses, trusts, councils, and community groups.
The position will be focussed on:processing permit and concession applicationsmonitoring commercial or private activity on public conservation land, including maintaining up-to-date database informationproviding high quality input on Resource Management Act planning processescoordinating the Department's input into resource consent applications and consent monitoring where these affect natural, historic and/or recreational resourcesproviding field support for statutory land management functionsproviding administrative, liaison and advocacy support to projects that seek to achieve more conservation through greater involvement of iwi, business, and the wider community.With your positive, enthusiastic attitude you will enjoy engaging with the community and building relationships with volunteer groups, iwi/ hapu/ whanau, and businesses to achieve good outcomes for conservation.
If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:highly organised with excellent communication skills and driveproactive critical thinker with the ability to make decisions and prioritise workability to juggle multiple work streams at any given timepassion for conservation and conservation valueshappy getting out of the office to engage with external stakeholders, participate in meetings and undertake site visits.knowledge of the Central Otago areaexperience working with and partnering with iwi, statutory authorities, community groups, and business groupsexperience within the regulatory space.DOC places importance on developing a culture where everyone can participate, thrive, and grow.
